State Responsibility Area (SRA)
An SRA is land where the state has financial responsibility for wildland fire prevention and suppression; OSFM maps FHSZs there.
A State Responsibility Area, or SRA, is land where the state has financial responsibility for preventing and suppressing wildland fires. The Office of the State Fire Marshal maps Moderate, High, and Very High fire hazard severity zones in SRA.
Why it matters
The current SRA FHSZ data took effect on April 1, 2024. For an SRA project record, retain the exact state map, its effective date, the date checked, and the project’s relationship to the mapped area. Appendix G’s wildfire section applies its questions to projects located in or near an SRA or land classified as a Very High FHSZ.
What it does not establish
An SRA map does not supply LRA coverage and should not be used to fill an unresolved local-source gap. It also does not decide what “near” means for a project or answer the evacuation, project-design, infrastructure, and post-fire questions in Appendix G.
